Why “Desire Paths” matter

Have you built HubSpot around your team’s actual behaviour?

Have you ever noticed those informal trails people create through parks or campuses?

These are called 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘴 — the routes we naturally take to get where we need to go faster, skipping unnecessary steps.

I recently came across the concept of desire paths and it made me think:this is exactly what people do when they use CRMs.

Instead of sticking rigidly to processes, users often find the most efficient ways to complete their sales, marketing or customer service tasks. And that’s where hashtag#HubSpot shines — it allows for flexibility while still keeping everything organized.

By understanding these natural workflows, you can optimize your CRM setup to fit your team’s unique needs, creating a system that works with their instincts, not against them.

You can do what the folks in this photo did. They noticed that people had forged a better, faster path through the trees. And they went ahead and put stones down to reinforce this natural behaviour.

Curious about how to carve out a better path with a CRM like HubSpot?
Let’s go for a walk and talk!
